Our job is to be your advocate and guide to evaluating the best fit for you or your loved one. Once there is a move into one of our recommended communities, we receive a referral fee from them. There are times when we do not get paid. We’re happy to explain our compensation for your particular situation and we’re happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

  • No. Contractually, they are not allowed to and, in fact, depend on us to bring them qualified residents. It is often the case that you may get better pricing when you work with us because of the volume of business we do.

  • The Greater Cincinnati office covers Union Kentucky to Springboro Ohio and everything in between. In Ohio we service Hamilton, Butler, Warren and Clermont Counties. In Kentucky we service Campbell, Kenton and Boone Counties.

  • There are many Communities in the Cincinnati area and each is a bit different. No two are exactly the same but there are some similarities. To provide some general guidance, communities provide a private apartment and range from studios to 2 bedrooms apartments. Those living independently can choose from patio homes at some communities. In almost every Community, though, the apartments are not intended for 24/7 occupancy. Rather, meals, snacks, and activities are provided in common spaces where residents can mingle together. Activities range from happy hours to reading areas to activity rooms for art and other interests. These common areas serve to promote social experiences and a place to hang out outside of your personal residence. Communities also host outings to shopping and entertainment like Reds games. Your days can be as busy as a resident wants - it is not uncommon for a Community to schedule 10 or more activities each day for residents.

  • Assisted Living and Dementia Care communities provide assistance with the Activities of Daily Living (ADL). These include dressing, showering, toileting, transferring, escorting, and other day to day activities we all need to do. Some people need little or no help with these activities, and others need very routine and regular help. Most Communities include some amount of time dedicated to these ADLs with the monthly rent, with additional charges applicable as the time needed to support these ADLs increases. Of course, meals, room cleaning, and laundry are also provided as part of the monthly rent charge.

    Some residents in Assisted Living and Dementia Care Communities require a very high level of support with ADLs. In particular, residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions may require total assistance, including feeding, complete continence management, and ambulation via wheelchairs. Some people without cognitive difficulties but with multiple physical challenges require this higher level of support, too. This level of care is not available in every Community. Your advisor can be particularly helpful in matching older adults with the right Community able to support your level of care needs today and expected in the future.

  • The basic costs, often referred to as ‘rent’ range from about $2,000 per month and can range up to $8,000 per month. The differences in ‘rent’ cost are based on the type of Community, square footage, and community amenities. Communities offering assisted living and memory care charge extra to support care charges like medicine management, and activities of daily living. Care charges range from $400 to $2,800 and up depending on the amount of care required by a resident. Understanding and projecting costs is an area where a skilled and local Assisted Living Advisor can really help.

  • Most Communities present to the older adult or family a monthly bill. The older adult/family is responsible for paying the bill and managing their own finances. There is little acceptance of risk directly by the Community when utilizing a month-to-month payment plan. If you run out money some communities accept Medicaid Waiver, others might promote an appropriate resident to skilled nursing with Medicaid support or ask the resident to find a different community.

    There are communities that will make a financial promise for lifetime care. These communities require financial qualification and often require a refundable (partial or sometimes fully) entrance fee that supports the community benevolent fund.

    The payment sources often utilized by older adults and families include Social Security retirement payments, Veteran’s cash benefits, pensions, long term care insurance, savings, money from the sale of a primary residence, life settlement and other income sources.

  • Medicare does not pay for independent, Assisted Living or Dementia Care in Kentucky. Only Skilled Nursing is covered by Medicare in Kentucky.

    In Ohio, some communities accept Medicaid Waiver for Assisted living but not for Independent Living or Dementia Care. Like Kentucky, Medicaid pays for services in Skilled Nursing facilities.

  • More and more communities are now accepting residents with pets. Often a pet fee will be required upon move-in. Some assisted living communities will only allow cats, while others will allow cats and dogs, usually with a weight limit. In most communities, residents must be able to completely care for their pets themselves. For residents with more limited mobility, a pet walking service is often available and sometimes the community will provide the service for a fee.
